EVENTURUS tips for booking
- Book early. High-speed rail tickets go on sale 14 days ahead. For Golden Week or Chinese New Year, book the moment they release.
- Use Trip.com or the 12306 app in English. Both accept foreign passports.
- Choose window seats (A or F) for the best views. A = window on the 3-seat side, F = window on the 2-seat side.
- 1st class is the sweet spot for trips over 3 hours. Only 1.7× the cost but significantly more comfortable.
- Business class is worth it for routes like Shanghai–Beijing (4.5h) if you want to sleep or work in peace.
- Bring snacks. Food carts come through but selection is limited. Pack snacks and a drink.
